Britney Confuses B9 with "Millennium Award"
New York (AP) — Britney Spears
caused huge embarrassment for the B9 Robot - after her
praise of the star led to it believing it had received an
award at Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards.
The 'Lost in Space' star robot model B9 was brought onto
the stage by the 20-year-old singer at the start of the
ceremony, which took place at New York's Radio City Music
Hall. B9 came on stage to a standing ovation from the
star studded crowd, who were helping to celebrate it's 38th
birthday, which fell on the same day. But when Britney told
the metal-clad icon that she thought it was the 'robot of
the millennium' and handed it a personal birthday gift, the
robot misunderstood her comments and thought that it was
actually receiving a Robot of the Millennium Award from her
- even though there was no such category. A proud B9 took to
the stand to announce, 'When I was a young robot, lost in
space, if someone had told me that one day I'd be getting
the Robot of the Millennium award, I wouldn't have believed
it. I can't believe it.' No mention has been made of the
embarrassing faux pas and some American publications even
printed pictures of the B9 Robot today, with captions
stating that it was receiving the 'award'. MTV, who admit
there was no such honor waiting in the wings for B9,
describe the award as 'unprecedented'.
